Feiyi Liao was born in Chengdu. He began his piano and musical training
under his mother Yi Feng at the age of four. He studied at the Sichuan
Conservatory of Music from 2012 - 2018, where he studied piano under Bing
Xu and composition under Qiqi Liu. He accomplished his Bachelor’s Degree
with the “Academic Honor” award from the New England Conservatory of
Musc in 2022, where he studied under Gabriel Chodos and HaeSun Paik. He
then received offers for the Master’s of Music from the Yale School of Music,
the Juilliard School of Music, the New England Conservatory of Music, the
Manhattan School of Music, the Peabody Institute and is currently pursuing
his Master’s degree at the Yale School of Music with full scholarship under
Boris Slutsky.
Feiyi Liao has performed as a soloist, composer, and chamber musician
throughout the United States and China. After twice winning the New England
Conservatory’s “Honors Competition”, he performed at the Jordan Hall in
Boston and had focused on interpreting works by Williams Bolcom, Witold
Lutoslawski, and Samuel Barber. His composition and performance for solo
piano “Sonatina” was highly praised by famous composer Yiqiang Sun and was
chosen to be one of the most outstanding works at the China Europe
International Culture Arts Festival 2020, as well as the online exhibition of the
People’s Daily Overseas Edition. He cooperated with the composer Qiqi Liu
recording his first album “Meet” in which his performance was highly praised
and posted on the 2021 International Society for Contemporary Music (ISCM).
Feiyi also composed, premiered, and recorded more than ten of his works,
including the “Flow-Flame” for piano quartet, “Reverie” for piano duet,
“Confession” for piano and violoncello.
Feiyi’s achievements include the grand prize in the Pacific Stars
International Piano Competition, the second place in the International Piano
Talents Competition in Milan, the silver prize in the “Music and Stars Awards”,
the fifth place in the Neapolitan Masters Competition in Italy, the second place
in the Asian Youth Music Competition, the silver prize in the International
Music Talent Online Competition, the fifth place of the Fourth Shenzhen Piano
Open Competition, the second place of the “Sterinborgh Cup” National
Teenager Piano Competition and so forth.
