Born in Hong Kong, Yang Yuk Yu first began her piano studies at age five. At eight, she was admitted to the Junior Music Programme of the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts, where she studied with Yim Wan in her earlier years; she is continuing her studies at the Academy as a Bachelor of Music student under the tutelage of Professor Gabriel Kwok, with
a full scholarship from the HKSAR Government.
Yang was a recipient of the HKSAR Home Affairs Bureau Multi-faceted Excellence Scholarship, The Helena May Scholarship and Tom Lee Music Scholarship. She has won prizes at various competitions, including the first prizes at the 81 st Steinway & Sons International Youth Piano Competition, Hong Kong Asia Piano Open Competition, Asian Youth Music Competition, Guangzhou Piano Open Competition, as well as the first runner-up
in the China Final of the 79 th Steinway & Sons International Youth Piano Competition.
She has participated in masterclasses given by renowned pianists including Jörg Demus, Oliver Triendl, Choi Sown Le, Ivan Yanakov and Robin Zebaida. In 2018, she attended the International Summer Academy of Mozarteum University Salzburg, where she received masterclasses from Ya-Fei Chuang.
