Huajun Zhang
Piano

Huajun Zhang began studying piano at the age of six, quickly discovering a natural gift and deep passion for music that set her on the path to becoming a professional musician. She graduated with the highest honors from the University of Northern Iowa’s School of Music, where she earned a full scholarship for her Master of Music degree in Piano Pedagogy and Piano Performance. During her time there, she also served as a lecturer for undergraduate students. Her principal teachers include renowned pianists Sean Botkin, Dr. Lynn Worcester Jones, Dr. Robin Guy, Dr. Theresa Camilli, Dr. Dmitri Vorobiev, Dr. Christine Tan, Lee Yin-Hwa, and Xian Zeng.

Her performance recordings have been featured on Iowa Public Radio KHOI FM 89.1. She has been invited to lecture and perform at institutions such as San Jose State University and the California Association of Professional Music Teachers (CAPMT) State Conference, and she coordinated the Young Professional Leadership Network Performance Series in Northern California.

Huajun’s artistry has earned high praise from distinguished musicians. Dennis Alexander, one of America’s most celebrated classical composers, described her playing as “extraordinary” with a “uniquely tender and captivating sound,” and commended her for her “distinctive, innovative, and rigorous pedagogical philosophy.” Acclaimed pianist Warren Jones (featured in The New York Times) and Margarita Shevchenko, prizewinner of the 1990 Chopin International Competition, lauded her “exceptionally agile and ingenious fingers.”

A passionate collaborator, Huajun frequently performs with instrumentalists and vocalists and participates in numerous charity events. She also mentors her students in chamber and concerto performance. Over the course of her extensive teaching career, she has developed and implemented several original piano teaching methodologies that have been highly acclaimed by pedagogues. Her students have won numerous international piano competitions and performed in major cities such as New York, Chicago, San Francisco, and Toronto, as well as in Poland and China. Many of them have also received recognition in newspapers and on social media for their musical achievements.
