Hyun-Jeong Ahn

Dr. Hyun-Jeong Ahn is a distinguished soloist and chamber musician whose performances have taken her across the United States, France, Germany, the Czech Republic, Spain, and Korea. She has appeared in celebrated venues including Carnegie Hall (New York), the Brahms House (Baden-Baden, Germany), Palffy Palace (Prague), Friedberg Hall, the Krannert Center for the Performing Arts, and leading performance spaces throughout Seoul such as Seongnam Arts Center, Ceramic Palace Hall, Youngsan Art Center, and Ewon Art Hall.

As a representative of Seoul National University, Dr. Ahn performed in numerous high-profile concerts, including a featured solo appearance in the STUDIO 2021 Gala and in the Etude Marathon Series, presenting repertoire ranging from Chopin to Schoenberg. She was also invited by the Peabody Conservatory faculty to perform in both the Thursday Noon Concert Series (DvoÅ™ák Piano Quintet) and the Friday Noon Concert Series as a soloist.
Dr. Ahn has participated in major international festivals across Europe and the United States, such as the Alpine Music Festival (France), the CCM Prague International Piano Institute (Czech Republic), Art of the Piano Festival (Cincinnati), the Bowdoin International Music Festival (Maine), and the Summer Piano Institute (Illinois). Most recently, she received an invitation to the prestigious Tanglewood Music Center in Boston.

A prizewinner of numerous international competitions, Dr. Ahn is the First Prize and Best Schubert Award recipient at the Carles & Sofia International Piano Competition, a top laureate at the Artciál International Piano Competition and Pacific Stars International Piano Competition, a semifinalist of the West Virginia International Piano Competition, and First Prize winner of the American Protégé International Competition. She was also honored with the Clara Ascherfeld Award upon graduating from the Peabody Conservatory.
Before coming to the United States, Dr. Ahn won many of Korea’s leading national competitions, including the Eumag Choonchoo, Korea Music Society, Music Education, Hanse University & Kookmin Newspaper, and Seoul Ensemble competitions, as well as top prizes at the Manhae Festival, Italy Arena, Seoul Baroque, and Kyung-Won University competitions.
She has played in master classes for many of the world’s most eminent pianists, among them Leon Fleisher, Arie Vardi, Jeno Jando, Pascal Rogé, Christopher Elton, Boris Slutsky, Antonio Pompa-Baldi, Sontraud Speidel, Pascal Amoyel, Daniel Shapiro, Boaz Sharon, and Mi-Joo Lee.

Born in Seoul, Dr. Ahn earned her Bachelor of Music in Piano Performance from Seoul National University, followed by a Master of Music and Graduate Performance Diploma from the Peabody Conservatory. She completed her Doctor of Musical Arts in Piano Performance and Literature at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign under the mentorship of Ian Hobson and Timothy Ehlen, where she also discovered her passion for teaching as a Graduate Teaching Assistant. She has since been invited as a guest lecturer and performer at MiraCosta College and Grossmont College.

Dr. Ahn currently serves as Adjunct Professor of Piano at Grossmont College. As co-founder of Duo Nova, an innovative piano ensemble based in San Diego, she is committed to bringing inspired and engaging performances to local audiences.
